Loch Lomond Whiskies Unveils Partnership with Louis Oosthuizen

Loch Lomond Whiskies, The Official Spirit of The Open, is delighted to announce it is working with Louis Oosthuizen as a Brand Ambassador for the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews , 12 years after Louis was crowned , Open Champion Golfer of 2010 , also at the home of golf, St Andrews.

To mark the new partnership, the award-winning independent distiller has crafted a limited edition 12 Year Old single-malt whisky, to be released ahead of the upcoming The 150th Open Championship, which will return to St Andrews in July 2022.

Distilled in 2010, the exceptional single malt pays homage to the year Oosthuizen celebrated his victory at the Home of Golf.

The Louis Oosthuizen 2010 Champion Golfer St Andrews edition perfectly captures Loch Lomond Whiskies’ signature style of fruit, honey and soft smoke. Crafted using the distillery’s unique straight-neck stills, the whisky is bottled at 46% non-chill filtered, ensuring a rich mouthfeel and boundless length of finish.

It is presented in a stylish carton which embodies the brand’s new elevated packaging design and bares the signature of the champion golfer. This is priced at £55 and is now available to purchase.

Louis Oosthuizen said: “Loch Lomond Whiskies is a truly innovative distillery, pushing the boundaries of whisky-making, and I have been a fan of their portfolio of single-malt whiskies for a number of years. Lifting the Claret Jug was a major highlight of my career and to encapsulate this with a specially created Loch Lomond Whiskies’ single-malt distilled in the year I won The Open is a huge honour."

“Loch Lomond Whiskies has a close affiliation with the world of golf, and I look forward to working alongside Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood  and Iona Stephen at The Open , as we return to St Andrews for The Open 150th Championship.”

Colin Matthews at Loch Lomond Whiskies said: “Louis Oosthuizen is one of the most well-known, and successful golfing stars in the world. To welcome him on board as a brand ambassador is a fantastic moment. The Louis Oosthuizen 2010 Champion Golfer St Andrews edition is an outstanding single-malt, delivering exceptional flavour profiles, which have been created from our remarkable stills."

“Working in collaboration with Louis, we have crafted a single-malt that is truly worthy of this champion sports star.

“Matured in three types of American Oak casks, it is a perfectly balanced expression which captures the distillery’s signature style of fruit, honey and soft smoke. It has delicious notes of peach and pear, layered with vanilla sweetness and a gentle hint of smoke on the finish.”

Loch Lomond Whiskies is the official Spirit of The Open, having agreed a prestigious five-year partnership with The R&A in 2018, which extends to the 150th tournament at St Andrews.

As the only distillery in Scotland to use straight-neck stills, Loch Lomond Whiskies is truly unique in its craftsmanship, using innovative techniques to explore flavour in a distinctive way.

The straight-neck stills give Master Blender Michael Henry greater control over the distillation process, allowing him to carefully manipulate the flavour profile, creating a portfolio of exceptional single-malt whiskies, which are unscored by its signature style.
