Craft and style are inseparable, from the sweep of a brush to the patience of a sculptor's hand. We believe whisky is no different. Every choice we make at the still has shaped a distilling style all our own, one you'll recognise in every glass: ripe fruit, rich honey, a whisper of soft smoke.
Fruit: Built through extended fermentation and our unique Straight Neck Stills.
Honey: Matured in American Oak, ex-Bourbon casks for true distillery character.
Smoke: Layered in from five peated spirits, married after maturation.
A minimum 92-hour fermentation builds fruity character into the wash, which then triple-distils through our Straight Neck Still, designed by Duncan Thomas at Littlemill, with 17 copper plates and two collection strengths. Its height and shape mean we capture only the lightest, fruitiest cut of the spirit.
Almost all Loch Lomond whiskies are matured in American Oak, ex-Bourbon casks sourced from distilleries such as Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey and Jack Daniel's, chosen for quality rather than quantity. It's this oak that lets our true distillery character shine through, giving each single malt its signature honey richness.
Our unique still setup allows us to create five distinct peated new make spirits. By marrying these with our other spirits after initial maturation, we're able to layer in varying levels of soft, signature smoke across the Loch Lomond range.

DISTILLATION
While it is rare for a distillery to use more than one type of still, we always follow our own path. We distil our single malts using two styles of still at Loch Lomond — the straight neck pot still and a more traditional swan neck pot still.
Our straight neck pot stills are unique in Scotch whisky and the cylindrical necks give us the incredible ability to control flavour. Traditionally, the necks of malt stills are open; but the stills at our distillery include special distillation trays in the necks, allowing for greater contact with the cooling alcohol vapour.
These innovative stills give superior control at the distillation stage, allowing us to take the spirit off at various cut points. This allows for different flavour notes to be captured and emphasised through the range of alcohol strengths that can be captured and rejected.
For example, our Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year Old uses unpeated spirit from our straight neck stills only, creating a distinctively lighter and more floral whisky; whereas our Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 Year Old uses a combination of peated spirit from both our traditional swan neck pot still and our straight neck pot still, creating an unconventional peat character with a lot of depth, marrying smoke and spiciness.
Our distillation techniques across all of our stills allow us to maintain the fruity character developed during our extra-long 92 hour fermentation process. This ensures that all single malts across the Loch Lomond range carry the signature fruity character.
MATURATION
Now it's time to wait.
The maturation process allows the spirit to interact with the wood and absorb the unique characteristics of the cask. At Loch Lomond, we most commonly use ex-American Oak bourbon barrels to create the sweet and fruity signature flavour that our whisky is known for. However, explore our warehouse and you will also find some ex-Oloroso sherry casks, European oak and many other interesting cask types.
With decades of experience to draw upon, our Master Blender knows exactly how every cask is maturing at any given time. And so, with just the right level of care and attention, we nurture each and every cask, ensuring the whisky within is of the highest quality and is bottled at the perfect time to create a perfect single malt every time.
CASKS FROM OUR OWN COOPERAGE
The Loch Lomond Distillery is one of only four distilleries in Scotland that have a cooperage on site at the distillery.
Having our very own cooperage allows us to ensure that barrel repairs and charring are carried out to an exacting standard so every cask is perfect for maturing our whisky. In just one year, our coopers rejuvenate around 10,000 barrels by tightening the metal hoops, repairing or replacing the wooden staves, and re-charring the wood before refilling with new whisky.
Craft and style are intrinsically linked. The sweep of the artist's touch, the care of the woodcarver's hand, and the tuning of an instrument to evoke the perfect note.
For us, whisky is no different.

OUR MASTER BLENDER
From distillation to maturation, blending and bottling, Michael Henry, our master blender, is the man responsible for the award-winning single malt whiskies we have on offer in our collection.
Michael joined the Loch Lomond distillery in 2007 and has been steering our products in the right direction as our Master Blender since 2014. He has a deep understanding of whisky-making and what sets Loch Lomond Whiskies apart from the rest - and with this, he has produced an extensive range of single malt & single grain scotch whiskies.
There’s no limit to the imagination of our Master Blender Michael Henry and his team. Like the conductor of an orchestra, Michael skillfully influences Loch Lomond’s signature notes of orchard fruit, sweet honey and soft smoke, to create a collection full of layered complexity and ever-changing moods.
Michael knows that even the most subtle changes can create endless variety, depth and drama— in the same way as a small shift in light can alter the landscape that surrounds our distillery.

Matured in refill American oak casks and finished for 12 months in French Limousin oak casks. The result is a delightfully fruity and spicy single malt with grapefruit citrus, sweet toffee and warming cinnamon spice notes.

Matured in American Oak barrels and finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks, Loch Lomond 30 Year Old is a smooth and elegant whisky with a deep fruit character of kiwi, gooseberry and lime. Bottled at47%, free from caramel colouring and chill filtration.
